Rotherham United Ladies faced Doncaster Belles in the first round of the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA County Cup away from home in chilly conditions. This is a competition the club are targeting to gain some success in as the teams in the county are similarly ranked and there is a chance of making good progress. After a reasonable start Rotherham United started to build into the game and halfway through the first half, Amy Booth was able to chip a clever finish in to the net from a rebound. This allowed the away side to see the remainder of the first half out well.
After a change of shape at half time, Pheobe Hallam managed to quickly double the lead in the second half after a neat combination in midfield allow her to race in behind and finish well. Rotherham United Ladies continued to be the more threatening side but struggled to find a third goal and Doncaster Belles managed to develop some momentum after scoring from close range following a corner. The hosts continued this momentum but the Lady Millers stood firm and could have extended their lead late on.
It was a professional performance which was hampered slightly by niggling injuries across the defensive line. However, the girls managed to show enough quality to see the tie out and progress to the next round.
