This opening league game of this season saw many new faces into Rotherham United Ladies FC. Newly appointed manager Simon Darke has had very little time to shape the new look Lady Millers. The team had pulled together following an early WPL League cup exit to Northern Division Derby County. The lady Millers now face Chorley away in the WPL Plate on 24 September.

The game started with the home side defending well from the first corner of the game. Drayton cleared and Hadley broke quickly to put the north Wales side under pressure Hadley’s shot easily saved by the keeper. After 9 minutes the pace of News saints forward was too much for the Millers defence and centre forward ridge slip the ball comfortably passed the out coming keeper to put New Saints one up. The ladies conceded a free kick just outside the box. A good deep delivery was met by New Saints central defender but she headed wide. Unfortunately she clattered into the post and sustained a bad wrist injury which resulted in her going to hospital with a fracture wrist. The lady millers pressed for an equaliser resulting in a corner delivered by Hadley. Carter was unable to force the ball home at close range. Two excellent saves by Boulton kept the score to a slender 1 0 lead. The lady millers conceded a second when a mix up in their defence saw the ball bounce high over Boulton into the net. 2 0 half time.

Millers came out for the second half believing they could get something from the game but after sustained pressure it was New Saints that took their chances to make it 3 0 after 57 minutes. The lady Millers bounced back with an excellent strike from Richardson to reduce the lead to 2 goals. The millers grew in confidence but the New Saints keeper was able to prevent any further score..
